Recessed Lights in Alumawood

Here is a quick video on one way to install recessed lights on a non-insulated solid Alumawood patio cover. Drill out or cut out the hole for the lights. Run the wire to the light and cap the panel. Power up the lights with switch

Here is a video:

Screw on your End Caps

Alumawood patio covers are always loosing their end caps. Installers will build the cover and sometimes forget or just not put screws in each end piece. With out the screws in each cap eventually some of them will work their way of each year.  We recommend #8 screws-self tapping but any screw to hold the cap on will work.

Here is a short video talking about this....

Chinese Downspouts

Take a look at this alternative to a standard downspout. When building Alumawood structures you can sometime find it hard to figure out where to bring the water down from the gutter and how. Some reasons for that could be columns or pillars that wont asthetically go well with the common downspout aluminum kit.

This is a "Chinese downspout." Here is a quick link to an Amazon search to find more.

Here are a few photos to give you an ideas of what we are talking about.

Extruded Gutter Video

Extruded gutter is an open gutter option for Solid Newport Alumawood patio covers. We replace a Rollformed gutter to make it easier to clean out the gutter. It is better to opt for the Extruded in the beginning if you know you will have a lot of debris on you patio cover. If you are free of trees and other problems that could clog you gutter then the rollform can save you money

Coring concrete

When building an Alumawood patio cover on an existing slab. One way to solve the problem is coring concrete for the footing. Then you can dig the dirt out and set you steel posts in concrete to stabilize the header beams. Here are a few pictures to get the point across.

Top of Alumawood

IRP(insluated roof panel ) Above and Newport 6" Flat Panel Below
This is the top of an Alumawood patio cover. There are two kinds of Alumawood Roofs: IRP (Insulated Roof Panels) and Newport Flat Panel (or 6"flat panel). In this picture you see the Newport

Flat Panel. The Newport is considerable more affordable and cannot be walked on.

The IRP can be walked on but not for a balcony. It can support the weight of someone if they need to get on top. Both products

As a builder my option for each:

Flat Panel Newport: If you are just looking for shade then the Newport patio is the cost effective way of getting that done. Saving money is a huge benefit in my mind. The bottom of the patio is flat and has wood texture. You can still get all the electrical extras, columns, lighting, blind, etc.. You can not walk on the top. You would need ply wood along the wall to get on top of the cover to distribute the weight

Insulated Roof Panel: Insulated roof panels are considered an upgrade. You can walk on the top when you need. Another reason to use the IRP would be if you intend on creating a room in closer down the road. Also, some HOA's only allow the IRP because they don't like the non-insulated roof "look" from the top.

Custom Turns

Here is a patio cover that had a very unique turn. The slope off the roof and headers had to be calculated exactly in order for the panels to flow smoothly accross the roof line. It seemed difficult before the build but like most things as long as you focus and pay attention anything is possible. Hope you like this one. Just want everyone to know what is possible with Alumawood.
